PROJECT COMPETITION 2026 OF THE BALTIC-GERMAN UNIVERSITY LIAISON OFFICE

BVAB plakats ENThe project competition offers support to universities and research institutions of the Baltic States in cooperation with a partner institution from Germany. Project funding focuses on initiating or further strengthening scientific relations and university cooperation between Germany and the Baltic States.

Application deadlines:

  • until 15.10.2025: project implementation period between 01.02.2026 and 31.10.2026
  • until 15.03.2026: project implementation period between 01.06.2026 and 15.11.2026

Project can be supported in the frame of following funding priorities:

  • Baltica Germanica and Innovativa - supports projects in which Baltic-German relations are conceptually made the starting point for a scientific cooperation project or that are dedicated to cooperation in particularly innovative and application-oriented research contexts. The maximum funding limit is usually 5 000 € per project, however, in justified cases it may be up to 10 000 €.
  • Internationalisation and academic exchange - supports the internationalisation of teaching and the strengthening of the exchange of higher education cooperation between Germany and the Baltic States. The maximum funding limit is 5 000 € per project.
  • Support for initiation of cooperation - supports the development of new partnerships between German and Baltic universities or research institutions by covering travel and accommodation expenses. The maximum funding limit is 2 500 € per project.

Conditions of participation:

  • The applicant must represent a higher education or research institution in Latvia, Estonia, or Lithuania.
  • The applicant must cooperate with a partner, who represents a state or a licensed university or a research institution in Germany. Additionally, more than one partner from Germany and the Baltic States can be involved in the project.
  • The project must improve the quality of higher education and the development of science in Estonia, Latvia and/or Lithuania and must strengthen scientific cooperation with Germany.
