Orientation week for new BIA students

Our Baltic International Academy has a good tradition of organising winter student intakes. These intakes allow Latvian and international applicants who, for various reasons, were unable to enrol at BIA at the beginning of the academic year, to catch up on their studies. Of course, the academic year begins a semester later for them and starts with Orientation Week. The programme includes an introduction to the features and opportunities of the Academy, as well as meetings with the teaching staff.

The week with new students was opened by Vladislav Volkov, Rector of the Baltic International Academy and Associate Professor. He warmly congratulated the new students on the start of their studies and noted that our Academy is a recognised European centre for modern education, which places great emphasis on scientific research. This is evidenced by the international scientific conferences regularly held at the academy and the scientific journal “Baltic Journal of Legal and Social Sciences” published by BIA.

Vice-Rector for International Relations of the BIA Inta Buka provided the new students with a detailed overview of the organisation of the study process at the academy, answered questions and presented them with souvenirs bearing the symbols of the Baltic International Academy.

Viktorija Petlak, Coordinator of the ERASMUS+ International Student Exchange Programme, explained that BIA students have the opportunity to study at other European higher education institutions.

Thamara Siriwardena, Head of the International Department of the BIA Student Parliament, shared her experience of studying at the academy with new students, provided information about student events and introduced them to the “Buddy” programme, the aim of which is to assist and support new students during their first months in Latvia and their studies at the academy.

The Coordinator for Work with International Students Jelena Uzbekova conducted a comprehensive tour of the Academy for new students, during which she introduced them to the Scientific Library, information centres and classrooms.

As part of Orientation Week, new students also met with the heads of study programmes, attended introductory lectures and completed testing. An educational tour of Old Riga was organised for them.
