The new international exhibition, organised by the BIArt gallery of our Baltic International Academy, is perhaps the most representative exhibition of drawings about Latvia in recent years. It features seventy original works, diverse in subject matter and format, by artists from Latvia, China, the USA, Mexico, England, Italy, and Ukraine.
Among them are many well-known names, such as Artur Nikitin, Edgar Mickelson, Valery Makovoy, Hongge Zhang, Mairita Tsoneva, Paul Hilston, and Francis Vallejo. The diverse exhibition is complemented by a work by the talented Italian medieval drawing artist Camillo Procaccini.
As the curator of the exhibition, a member of the The Artists’ Union of Latvia Valentin Danilenko noted at the exhibition’s opening, he deliberately included this drawing so that viewers, and the artists themselves, could compare drawing styles of the past and present.
This is the right decision, according to the talented Latvian artist Valeriy Makovoy. He believes that every artist should be able to create drawings, as they are the foundation of any painting.
Therefore, this exhibition is interesting not only for art lovers but also for artists themselves, especially beginners.
The exhibition is located on the third floor of the academic building of the BIA (Valerijas Seiles Street 1/4) and is open during the academy’s working hours. Admission is free.
